Prodder is a Podcast client made in Perl that can be used on any *n*x system. It operates via command-line interface.
Prodder has a number of features that make it stand out among other podcast clients. These features include interactive and autonomous modes which allow effortless functionality, a selective downloading feature that is suitable for low-volume users and those who use dial-up, extended item information that contains date, description, size and enclosure URL, user-defined download directory structures based upon date, category, and title, as well as the playlist generation feature.
Additionally, Prodder is released under the GNU General Public License so that users have complete control over how they use it. Users will require Perl 5, XML::DOM Perl module, date, wget, less, HTML::FormatText::WithLinks Perl module to fulfill its requirements.
The latest release of Prodder includes several updates and additional features. The previous occurrence of item descriptions being mangled after viewing has been corrected. An arbitrary shell execution vulnerability has been fixed, along with general code cleanups and reorganizations. The data destined for the file system is now sanitized, correcting the behavior when title/category are undefined. The client works when "less" isn't available to ensure that it's functional for all users.
Overall, Prodder is an excellent podcast client that provides users with numerous unique features and unparalleled functionality.
