PSPFormat allows users to open and save PSP format files from Photoshop ranging from version 5 to 9.
One of the great things about PSPFormat is its versatility. It supports PSP 5,6,7 versions and uncompressed, RLE, and LZ77 compression formats in 1, 4, 8, and 24 bit depths (Bitmap, Grey Scale, Indexed and RGB modes). Another helpful feature is its support for layer transparency and alpha channels, allowing you to work seamlessly with multiple layers. And if you only need to work with a single layer, PSPFormat will read any single image layer.
There are a few considerations to keep in mind when using PSPFormat. Firstly, you'll need Photoshop to use this plugin. Additionally, the Photoshop plugin interface only allows access to a single layer, so if you're working with PSP files of multiple layers, only one image layer will be read or saved. If there is more than one image layer, you will be asked to choose one. Additionally, only raster layers are supported; other layer types are ignored. Finally, since each image channel is processed in its entirety (rather than in pieces), Photoshop may run out of memory using this plugin with very large images.
All in all, PSPFormat is a valuable tool for anyone who needs to work with PSP files in Photoshop, and it's free!
