PTheremin is a Theremin synthesizer made with software.
For those who are familiar with the sound effect used in many old sci-fi flicks, PTheremin allows you to control the frequency and amplitude using the mouse. Furthermore, it has an additional feature that lets you limit the output frequency to only musical notes of a specific scale, like pentatonic or diatonic. This feature makes it easy to play clean and precise notes, but vibrato is not supported in this mode.
To get a convincing Theremin sound, it is recommended to run the output into a reverb effect of some sort, like a reverb pedal and a guitar amplifier.
PTheremin requires a Linux PC with an OSS-supported soundcard, Python 2.3 or later, and PyGTK 2.4 or later. Although it might work on earlier versions, it hasn't been tested.
The latest version of PTheremin comes with some notable improvements that include fixing max volume causing clipping, fixing issues with saving recordings, and various user interface improvements like colors, note labels, and scales.
In summary, if you want to experience the unique sound of a Theremin synthesizer and control the frequency and amplitude with your mouse, PTheremin is the perfect choice.
