Putmail is a lightweight SMTP client designed to replace the sendmail command when used by MUAs without SMTP support. The software enables users to send emails easily and efficiently.
In addition, Putmail is simple to configure and only 350 lines long. The latest release of Putmail has fixed a security flaw. If TLS was used with an unsupported server, the request to initiate TLS would go unnoticed by putmail.py, allowing the user to think that their username and password were being sent in an encrypted form, when they were actually being sent in cleartext form. Putmail.py now has checks in commands sent to the server to ensure that any 4xx or 5xx codes will be considered errors.
This latest version has been operating smoothly without issues, but if you believe that making 4xx errors an issue is too restrictive and causes problems, don’t hesitate to reach out to the developers. Finally, the internationalization code has been removed due to a lack of demand. No one had requested translations, and the only one present was for Spanish, which the developer didn’t even need.
