Pydar is a software-based audio recording tool that allows scheduling of radio program recordings. It simplifies the process of capturing audio content and provides greater accessibility to audio content for personal use.
What's even better is that Pydar is completely free software that utilizes the GNU General Public License. However, it is only compatible with GNU/Linux or similar operating systems, which have the Linux binary interface. This is because Pydar directly uses the kernel interface to tune the radio.
To run Pydar, you will require Python >= 2.2, PyGTK >= 2.0.0, Libglade >= 2.0.0, at, and sox to schedule your recordings. But, the good news is that Pydar does not need any GNOME specific libraries, and it follows the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines. If you do find any deviations from the HIG, please report them as bugs.
If you are using Redhat GNU/Linux 9.0, you will need to upgrade PyGTK before Pydar will function correctly. Nevertheless, the RPMs that come with Fedora Core, such as pygtk2, pygtk2-devel, and pygtk2-libglade, have been tested, and they work extremely well.
In the latest version, Pydar has added a few warning/confirmation dialogs, beeps, and has improved its error reporting by being more conservative about swallowing exceptions. Overall, Pydar is a reliable and efficient digital audio recorder software that comes packed with essential features.
