Jack is a real-time audio server capable of high performance and low latency.
While PyJack is impressive, there are some potential problems that come with new developments of the Jack client API. However, the software has received patches for a MacOS compile, amongst others, which are yet to be integrated.
Though it isn't actively maintained at the moment, users are welcome to get in touch with the developer for any bug related queries or issues. PyJack serves two primary purposes; to show that it can be done and for programmers who want to prototype DSP and sound synthesis algorithms using Numeric Python and similar tools.
PyJack can also be used as an audio capture or playback tool or for patchbay applications. In fact, users can write powerful Jack patchbay for Python using the PyJack module. Although this is still planned for the future.
Installing PyJack is remarkably easy thanks to Python distutils, which requires a mere three steps. Simply unpack the archive, switch to the source directory, and install the software.
