Python-written CAD package for designing 2D/3D models.
The development of PythonCAD began in July 2002, and the first public release was made on December 21st, 2002. Since then, the software has undergone numerous revisions with the twenty-fifth release being made available on May 26, 2005, offering several compatibility fixes and a number of other improvements.
The development team has worked tirelessly over the years to make PythonCAD better and more useful. One improvement was the internal restructuring of the code to make it work in a better, more cooperative fashion with other Python programs. Unfortunately, the Cocoa front-end code of the software has suffered from a lack of maintenance and is currently not functional. Despite attempts to improve the situation with later releases, the team requires a developer or team of developers running Mac OS X to bring the Cocoa code into a usable state.
To run PythonCAD, your machine must have several software packages up and running. These include Python 2.2 or newer with the zlib module, gtk-2.0, and pygtk-2.0. Earlier versions of Python will not work, and the GTK/PyGTK code requirements are similarly strict, as code for the pygtk-2.0 module do not work with the earlier release. If you wish to operate the software with gtk-1.2 and the older PyGTK, you will need to do significant coding.
Overall, PythonCAD is a fantastic option for developers looking for an open-source, easy-to-use CAD package. With its versatility and extensive customization features, the software is well-suited for CAD projects of all sizes and complexities.
