WvDial frontend is a user-friendly software that simplifies the modem connection process. It is an easy-to-use interface for WvDial that allows users to connect to the internet through a modem.
The software features an output monitor and a system tray icon, making it easy for users to keep an eye on their connection. Moreover, pyWvDial grants access to important connection information such as IP address, DNS address, and the interface used.
To use pyWvDial, your system must have PyGTK 2.12 or higher installed. Giacomo Lozito is the author and maintainer of the software, which is released under the GNU General Public License v2.
When launched, pyWvDial will automatically detect your WvDial configuration. It will look for the wvdial binary in /usr/bin/wvdial or /usr/local/bin/wvdial. If it cannot locate the binary, it will search for your local .wvdialrc file in your home or the system-wide /etc/wvdial.conf.
However, if you have a custom path for either the binary or config file, you can specify it using command-line options. Additionally, you can edit your wvdial config file within the pyWvDial interface by clicking on the config button. All the available config options, up to wvdial 1.60, are supported.
After the binary and config file are found, the dial-up button becomes active. Users can start their connection by clicking on it. WvDial messages will be displayed in the details area. Once the connection is started, the dial-up button will change to a shut-down button that can be used to quit WvDial.
Once the connection is active, pyWvDial will display all the information it has collected from WvDial output, such as IP address, DNS address, and the interface used.
PyWvDial provides multiple command-line options that allow users to customize the software's look and the way WvDial is launched. Users can use options such as "--with-wvdial," "--with-config," "--with-params," "--auto-dial," "--hide-window," "--hide-details," "--version," and "--help" to customize their pyWvDial experience.
