QChat is a chat application that runs on multiple operating systems and facilitates communication over a local area network (LAN). It allows users on Windows, macOS, and Linux to chat with each other in real-time without the need for an internet connection.
The QChat software comes with several features that make communication among users seamless. These features include the ability to send messages, create channels (with the exception of the 'Main' channel), have private chats, transfer files, view and edit user information and profiles, and even use smiles that are similar to kopete's format. Additionally, QChat ensures that the smileys look the same on the receiver's end as they do on the sender's end, even if different themes are used.
Furthermore, QChat comes with some requirements that must be met before installation. These requirements include having Qt 4.x as that is what the software runs on.
This software also comes with some recent upgrades, which include an added basic server mode functionality (although it may be unstable and buggy, so it is not advisable to send large files while in the server mode), IP list serverless mode, data compression option, RTF support, animated smiles capability, configurable shortcuts, message filtration, configuration of users list appearance, logging of chats, and improved single messages support.
Despite these additions, however, there are still some bugs in the software. Nevertheless, QChat remains a very useful software for anyone who needs to chat with a group of friends or colleagues on a local area network.
