QGnokii is a software tool that serves as an alternative frontend for Gnokii, made with QT3. It provides users with a more user-friendly interface to interact with Gnokii.
Despite this, QGnokii has several key features including sending SMSes, fetching/deleting/adding address book entries as well as fetching the ToDo list, and utilising the phone's modem (although this is not currently available on OpenBSD). Additionally, it can identify the phone itself. The aim is to improve and enhance its functionality in the future, focusing on calendar and ToDo list write support.
Before use, it is essential that Gnokii and pppd have been installed. To install QGnokii, the user must unpack the tarball, edit Makefile to specify the relevant directory and variable information, and then run the make and make install commands as root. After installation, it is recommended that the user relogin or execute . /etc/profile.
In the latest release, there has been a bugfix in the phone book retrieval function, QGnokiid no longer retains a permanent connection with the phone and there have been minor bugfixes across the software.
