QMC2 is a UNIX MAME frontend powered by Qt 4, which offers support for both XMAME and SDLMAME. It provides an intuitive graphical interface for managing ROMs, game controls, and more.
QMamecat was based on Qt 2, and development stopped in 2003. However, QMC2 has been built entirely from scratch as a Qt 4 project. While QMC2 takes some inspiration from its predecessor, it is more than just a remake.
The new design is much more flexible and avoids some of the major deficiencies of QMamecat, such as its reliance on frontend- and CLI-related MAME changes. QMC2 uses a template-based MAME configuration scheme that can easily be enhanced with additional command-line options outlined in an XML template file.
Thanks to this adaptable and open design, QMC2 can support multiple MAME targets at once, including XMAME and SDLMAME. Overall, QMC2 is a reliable and convenient option for anyone looking to use MAME alongside a clean and user-friendly interface.
