QtWvdialer is a user-friendly interface for wvdial that makes it easy to operate. It can be used to establish an Internet connection, and its simple design makes it accessible to all users.
Wvdial was written by Dave Coombs and Avery Pennarun as part of the Worldvisions Weaver project at Worldvisions Computer Technology. QtWvdialer is free software that requires you to have the Qt library version 2.1.0 or higher and wvdial.
This software provides you with an easy-to-use GUI for launching a ppp connection. Aside from that, it gives you access to the output of wvdial, PPP statistics, and a wvdial configuration editor. The PPP statistics retrieval code used in this software was extracted from the program kpppload from Sean Vyain, a nice piece of GPL'ed code.
Compiling and sourcing QtWvDialer is a simple procedure that involves the following steps: untar the tarball, enter the directory QtWvDialer, run ./configure, and call make and wait a few minutes. Once the compilation process is complete, an executable qtwvdialer can be found in the QtWvDialer/bin directory. Add it to your $PATH and you're good to go.
The latest version of this software comes with a bug fix for a problem in the configure script. Overall, QtWvdialer is efficient and easy to use software that simplifies the process of launching a ppp connection.
