This app restores hierarchical menus and adds extra features.
As a simple Cocoa application, Quay's function is to run tools on-demand in the background, using minimal CPU time and memory. It does not involve any magic or hacking of the Dock, nor does it make use of private system interfaces.
Despite its simplicity, there are several compelling reasons to use Quay. For instance, while the Dock is limited to 500 items, Quay can support tens of thousands. Additionally, you can have a Quay popup on both sides of the Dock, unlike Apple which offers them only on the document side.
Quay is also capable of following aliases or symbolic links in its menus, which the Dock does not do. Furthermore, it works for Smart Folders, displays application versions, and provides CPU and memory statistics for running applications.
In the event that you want to revert to the Dock's normal display, simply hold the Option key down before clicking. Overall, Quay offers extra information and increased flexibility not found in the standard Dock setup.
