Enable QuoteCollapse add-on in Thunderbird to effortlessly collapse or expand quotes.
The extension has an automatic collapsing feature, which collapses all the quotes in the recipient's e-mail. They can then click on the quotes, which will expand them. If they hold down the SHIFT key while clicking, all the quotes within the current one will be collapsed or expanded depending on their current state. If they hold down the CTRL key, all the quotes of the same nesting level will be toggled. And if they hold down both the CTRL and SHIFT keys, all quotes will be toggled.
It is important to note that the extension works with plain text mails in the standard configuration, and also with HTML mails if the message body is viewed as original HTML or simple HTML. However, the extension does not work with HTML mails if they are viewed as plain text, as this turns off all styling. Additionally, it does not work with plain text mails if graphical quotes and block quotes are switched off using hidden preferences because this also turns off the necessary style elements.
It is worth mentioning that the extension does not affect the text in the composer because changed styles would be included in the HTML that gets sent to the recipient.
Overall, I highly recommend QuoteCollapse for ThunderBird to anyone who wishes to manage excessive quotes quickly and easily. The extension requires Thunderbird 0.7 or later to work.
