QuoteCollapse is a browser plugin that collapses quoted text automatically and can be expanded by clicking, improving readability and reducing clutter on web pages.
In addition to its basic functionality, QuoteCollapse offers some advanced features. By holding down SHIFT while clicking, you can collapse/expand all quotes contained in the current one. Similarly, holding down CTRL allows you to toggle all quotes of the same nesting level, while holding down both CTRL and SHIFT toggles all quotes.
QuoteCollapse is compatible with standard plain text mails, as well as HTML mails if you view the message body as original HTML or simple HTML. However, it won't work with HTML mails if you view them as plain text since this mode turns off all styling. It also won't work with plain text mails if you switch off graphical quotes and block quotes using hidden preferences.
Another great feature of QuoteCollapse is that it intentionally does not influence the text in the composer. This ensures that the HTML sent out doesn't include any unintended style changes made by the extension. Additionally, it coexists happily with other extensions, such as QuoteColors.
Customization is also possible through CSS. QuoteCollapse only requires Thunderbird versions 0.7-2.0.0.*, making it widely accessible.
The latest release, version 0.7, is identical to 0.6 except for its maxVersion. Note that a reupload of version 0.7 was necessary due to an addons.mozilla.org error that listed it as version 1.7.
Overall, QuoteCollapse is an indispensable tool for anyone dealing with a large volume of e-mails or newsgroup posts. Its automatic collapsing of quotes and advanced features greatly improve email readability, making it a highly recommended extension for all Thunderbird users.
