RealCap is a software tool that facilitates the capturing of streams from RealPlayer. It operates as a bash utility.
One of the most basic operations supported by Realcap requires nothing more than the stream URL. However, for more advanced users, a range of options are available to further refine the recording process. These options include -v/--version to display the current version of the program, -h/--help to display help text, and -c/--captime to set the duration of the stream in seconds (taking initial buffering into account).
Users can also use the -o/--oggbits option to specify the nominal bitrate (kbps) of the Ogg Vorbis output, or the -m/--mp3bits option to set the constant bitrate (kbps) of the MP3 output. Alternatively, if no encoding is desired, these options can be omitted.
The quality of Ogg Vorbis encoding can be set using -q/--oggquality, which can accept fractional values between 0 and 10 (10 being the highest). Additionally, users can set the artist's name and track title for the ID3 tag in compressed output files using the -a/--trackartist and -t/--tracktitle options, respectively.
To further customize the output, users can use the -f/--filename option to specify a name for all output files (without extension), which defaults to vsound.wav/ogg/mp3. Finally, the -d/--delete option can be used to automatically delete the WAV file after recording if Ogg Vorbis or MP3 encoding is specified (otherwise, this parameter is ignored).
Overall, Realcap is a powerful and customizable tool that can greatly simplify the process of capturing audio streams from RealPlayer, providing users with a range of options to fit their needs.
