Rebound is a software that offers a similar gaming experience to the popular puzzle game Diamonds.
The game features bricks of different colors, which can only be destroyed when the ball is the same color. Additionally, there are key and lock bricks which must be unlocked before they can be destroyed. Other bricks exist with different functions, but the goal remains the same - remove the bricks to pass the level. Rebound is a fun and challenging game suitable for all ages.
The 0.8 beta release of Rebound is quite stable and playable. It features four levels which are fun and challenging, but players can add new levels by editing the data/level.ldf file and following the instructions in the accompanying readme file. However, the score area is missing a countdown timer and only one background image is currently supported. It would be great to have one for each level.
Rebound also features background music and collision sounds, and the entry screen is already done. The artwork of the game can be overhauled externally to the game development. However, improvements could be made to the level parser error messages and comments must be updated in the ldf file.
More levels, at least 15 or 20, are needed to keep the game fresh and exciting. This release features 14 playable levels, thanks to submitted levels by Tobin Zerba and Quentin Crain! The game also has new backgrounds which are images from NASA of outerspace. If players feel these are too dark and distract from the game play, the developer is open to modifying them.
Version 1.0 of Rebound will have an RPM release for Linux and possibly a better installer for Windows. Overall, Rebound is a great game with a loyal fanbase, and the developer is responsive to feedback and suggestions.
