RecordRadio is a bash script that integrates with amarok and utilizes streamripper to capture radio stations. It's a simple software solution for recording radio content.
Enabling RecordRadio as a plugin is simple, and once connected to any URL that starts with http://, the plugin will spawn an instance of streamripper to record the songs and place them in subdirectories within a directory called "Music" in your home. Amarok also starts listening to streamripper's relay server on port 8017 within five seconds of the connection to avoid doubling the bandwidth.
However, due to its simplistic design, there are a few shortcomings to be aware of. If you want to change streamripper options or the directory where things get stored, you'll need to edit the file manually. Starting an internet radio station will clear your playlist, and there is a five-second delay before everything is running. Additionally, sometimes the server is full and cannot support an additional connection for streamripper, which means you won't be able to record from that station.
Despite these limitations, RecordRadio is released under the GPL and may be helpful for those looking to record and add songs from radio stations to their music collection. It requires Amarok, streamripper, bash, awk, egrep, and ps. The latest release offers separate "always record" and "record on demand" modes and various bug fixes.
