Remote Dialer is a versatile application that provides dialing capabilities within other apps or as a standalone program. Once loaded, it appears in the system tray and allows users to highlight and copy phone numbers to the clipboard for easy dialing.
The application considers any text that contains only characters from 0 to 9, hyphen, dot, left, and right parenthesis as a phone number. In case there is a conflict with other applications, users can right-click on the system tray icon, unmark "Detects" and continue using the Dialer. Customization of options is possible too. Users can enter the prefix when the long-distance prefix they require is not displayed. The provider's calling number can be entered in the green area and marked as Active when the user wants to use a different provider than the default.
The Dialer will automatically save entries for future use. Clicking on the Dial button would initiate the call. Users can specify how the Dialer should behave with a few clicks on the Options menu. If the Options-Display 'Pickup Receiver' menu is checked, a message would appear while dialing 'Pickup Receiver,' and the user needs to click the OK button (or press the enter key) to disengage the computer from the phone line. If the option is unchecked, the Dialer will disengage from the phone line automatically after the number of seconds set with the Options-Set delay menu (default is eight seconds).
Users can also skip dialing the area code by marking Skip Area Code. The Options-Base Length of Phone Numbers menu can determine the length of the phone number without an area code. Lastly, one can conveniently launch Dialer.exe from any application with the phone number on the command line. For example, from VB or VBA: Call Shell("c:\dialer32\dialer.exe 555-555-5555", 1). Overall, Remote Dialer is a feature-rich software that simplifies and streamlines the process of making phone calls.
