RMA is a supplementary software for HostMonitor that facilitates remote monitoring.
HostMonitor 4.0+ can now monitor remote networks through the use of Remote Monitoring Agents (RMA). This compact application receives requests from HostMonitor, performs tests, and provides the results of the tests back to HostMonitor. There are several reasons why you may need the RMA, such as better security for your network. You can run tests such as CPU usage or performance counters tests on a remote Windows system without the need for HostMonitor to log in to that system with admin privileges. Instead, you can use the RMA installed on that remote system, with HostMonitor only needing one TCP port to communicate with the RMA agent.
The RMA also simplifies network administration, saving you from the need to share local drives or folders to perform tests such as File Integrity, Folder/File Size, File Availability, Count Files, and more. In addition, the RMA decreases network traffic by running tests locally on a system and only sending its results to HostMonitor, thus reducing the amount of data that has to travel through the network.
The RMA is also a valuable tool for monitoring separated networks connected through the Internet. Installing one instance of RMA behind the firewall in network "A" will enable monitoring of the entire network "A" using the HostMonitor in network "B" with the use of just one open TCP port. Moreover, RMA for Linux/BSD/Solaris allows you to perform tests that HostMonitor is unable to carry out, such as monitoring processes that are running specifically on Linux systems.
Some notable features of the RMA include encrypted traffic between Remote Monitoring Agents and HostMonitor, the capacity to customize the list of enabled tests for each agent, the ability to restrict incoming TCP connections with the list of acceptable addresses, and the capability to configure, restart, and upgrade agent(s) remotely with the use of RMA Manager. Overall, the RMA proves to be a valuable asset to any network administrator looking to improve the efficiency, security, and functionality of their network.
