Renamepics is a program that utilizes exiftags to quickly rename all JPEG files in a selected directory.
Gone are the days of trying to decipher file names like "Sally1-birthday.jpg" - with renamepics, your files will be renamed to something like "20051011-141023.jpg". This method ensures that all file names are unique, as long as you aren't taking more than one picture per second. Plus, you can easily tell when each picture was taken just by glancing at the file name.
It's important to note that renamepics is still considered beta software, so there is no guarantee, explicit or implied. Use it at your own risk. However, many users, including myself, have found that it works great.
If you want to give it a try, this release makes "exif" the default program to extract exif data instead of "exiftags", as it seems to run a bit cleaner. But if you prefer "exiftags", don't worry - it can still be used by uncommenting in the script. Overall, if you're looking for a simple and efficient way to rename your JPEG files, renamepics is definitely worth a try.
