rlocate is software built to simplify searching, identifying and locating files and directories on Unix-like systems. It is designed to improve system efficiency and reduce the need for manual search commands.
Like slocate, the behavior of rlocate is the same but with the added advantage of always staying up-to-date. The only downside is that the rlocate kernel module can only be compiled with a Linux 2.6 kernel.
That being said, there are some new features in this release that are worth mentioning. Thanks to a patch by Rudi Lippert, you can now adjust the interval for rlocated to suit your needs. Additionally, concurrent access to the same database has been disabled to prevent any conflicts.
All in all, rlocate project is a great tool for those who need a more reliable and up-to-date way of locating files. It's definitely worth giving a try if you're looking for an alternative to the traditional "locate" command.
