Roster now has a Bind9 configuration importer and exporter, allowing for easy migration and management of DNS configurations. This software tool streamlines the process of importing and exporting Bind9 configurations, simplifying the overall management of DNS.
The software has four key components that make it a powerful tool for managing DNS records. The core component features the database interface and core API, including the authorization layer. The server component is a multi-threaded XML-RPC server that supports SSL and offers LDAP authentication.
The configuration manager component is responsible for generating Bind configuration files through the core API and pushing them to their respective servers. Finally, the user tools component includes over 20 tools for creating, listing, and removing records, zones, views, DNS servers, DNS server sets, groups, users, and assignments between them all.
Roster does not require a live MySQL database, as the configuration files for Bind are generated from the local MySQL database. It currently supports views, many DNS servers in multiple configurations, IPv6, user/group authorization, LDAP authentication, and Unicode hosts.
There are several big features on the TODO list, including DNSSEC and a web interface in mod_python. Overall, Roster offers an impressive suite of tools and features for managing DNS records and is an excellent option for those utilizing Bind 9.
