The JACK Audio Recorder is a software tool that allows you to capture and log transmissions and audio recordings. This compact and easy-to-use tool is perfect for recording voice communications, radio broadcasts, and other types of audio recordings. With its intuitive interface, you can quickly and easily customize your recording settings and save your recordings in a variety of formats.
The software has several options that allow the user to customize the recording process. The command-line options include: automatically connecting to JACK ports, setting the audio output format and bitrate, selecting the number of channels, providing a name for the JACK client, setting the number of hours before deleting files in the directory, configuring the length of the ring buffer, and enabling or disabling verbose and quiet mode.
Rotter supports several audio output formats, including MP3, MP2, AIFF, AU, CAF, FLAC, and WAV. By default, Rotter uses MP3 format encoding.
A usage example for Rotter is as follows: "rotter -a -f mp3 -d 1000 -b 160 -v /var/achives". This command starts logging audio to hourly files in "/var/archives". Rotter will automatically connect to the first two JACK output ports it finds and encode the audio to MPEG Layer 3 at 160 kbps. Each hour, it will delete files older than 1000 hours or 42 days. Verbose mode means it will display more informational messages.
In addition to the command line options, Rotter also provides informative messages like the root directory, the JACK client registration status, the size of the ring buffer, the encoding version being used, the input and output channels, and the connected ports.
Overall, Rotter is an excellent recording tool that enables radio stations to comply with legal regulations. Its functionalities are customizable, and it supports different audio formats, allowing users to choose the output format. Finally, the hierarchical directory structure provides an organized way of storing related files.
