The RSync Manager software offers a suite of scripts that simplify the management and automation of sites relying on rsync.
Designed with large site management in mind, RSync Manager is highly expandable and flexible. To get started with the software, users simply need to run the add_mirror script. This script will prompt users with a series of questions, including the remote site, the remote module, exclusion rules, compression, authentication, and more.
Once users have supplied the necessary information, the add_mirror script will create a file under RSync's etc/pkg directory, with the name of the remote site. All packages from this site will subsequently be added to that file. We strongly recommend using this script primarily for adding mirrors, to avoid typos and other errors.
The main script, do_sync, can be used to run updates after the initial setup has been completed. If no arguments are provided, do_sync updates all packages automatically. Alternatively, users can specify specific packages to update by providing arguments in the format host::module.
Recent releases of RSync Manager have introduced a range of new features and improvements. For example, the stats function now creates statistics for the current day and the output style of the statistics has been updated. Additionally, a range of bug fixes have been made to all three scripts in the set, improving performance and reliability across the board.
In summary, if you're looking for a powerful and flexible tool for managing rsync-reliant sites, RSync Manager is definitely worth a closer look. With its advanced set of features and high degree of customization, it's an excellent choice for both experienced and novice users alike.
