RusXMMS: Software for character set conversion of multilingual languages utilizing multiple character sets.
One of the primary features of the RusXMMS2 Project Library is its ability to autodetect languages and encodings. It offers language and encoding autodetection for most European languages, making it easy for users to work with multiple languages seamlessly.
The library also offers on-the-fly translation between languages using online services, which can hugely benefit users who frequently work with different languages. In addition, there's support for encoding detection plugins besides Enca and LibRCD, as well as recoding/translation of multi-language playlists.
RusXMMS2 allows users to configure new languages and encodings easily. It features a shared configuration file, and users can utilize the same recoding configuration as XMMS, making it efficient for multiple applications.
There's also a GTK/GTK2 UI library that can add a properties page to GTK applications with just three lines of code. The software offers menu localization opportunity, providing users with a more comfortable experience.
In terms of patches, RusXMMS offers a wide range of features. It allows visualization and editing of the whole range of ID3 tags using any of eight-byte or Unicode encodings. It also supports playlists with non-English filenames and the translation of foreign languages to English or locale one.
The embeded properties page is another excellent feature of RusXMMS, making it an ideal player to work with ID3 titles. TagLib is yet another patch that allows visualization and editing of ID3 v.1 and v.2 titles.
Any TagLib based application will correctly work with ID3 tags out of the box. There's also support for adding properties pages to applications with several lines of code. Additionally, the 'tagwriter' program from the TagLib examples can convert titles of all your MP3 files to Unicode ID3 v.2 tags just using the command: "tagwriter *.mp3".
LibID3 allows visualization of ID3 v.1 and v.2 titles, and any LibID3 based application will correctly display but not edit ID3 tags out of the box. Mpg123 offers visualization of ID3 v.1 titles, while GFtp recodes file names between FTP servers using different encodings. Finally, Unzip allows recoding file names from Windows created archives, making it an essential tool for users who work with different language encodings.
