Scribes is a GNOME-based text editor.
As Free Software licensed under the GNU GPL, Scribes includes basic GNOME integration, file loading and saving, clipboard support (Cut, Copy, Save), preliminary online manual, preliminary printing support, search and replace text, unlimited undo and redo, user customization, syntax highlighting for over 30 languages, the ability to move the cursor to a specific line, text wrapping, right margin control, current line highlighting, basic bracket matching, configurable fonts, drag and drop functionality, basic automatic indentation, and full keyboard navigation and shortcuts.
Scribes requires GNOME 2.10 (with Yelp), Python 2.4, PyGTK 2.6, GNOME Python 2.10, and GNOME Python Extras 2.10. The most recent release (version 0.3.3.3) includes updates to the Chinese translation (Chaos Proton) and AMD64 fixes, initializes gnome libraries to fix help browser crashes, introduces the need for Python 2.5, implements a new save system and automatic word completion tweaks, remembers window position and size for blank windows (rockalite), includes proper use of tabs/spaces depending on user configuration when inserting templates (rockalite), provides performance improvements, and addresses numerous bugs.
