Seismic Unix offers an all-in-one software platform for analyzing seismic data, conducting wave propagation research, and processing seismic information.
The installation process is straightforward, but it requires your utmost attention to avoid any system mishap. Before unpacking the cwp.su.all.xx.tar.Z bundling, ensure you read the README files first. Never install as 'root.' Instead, use the compressed tarfile cwp.su.all.xx.tar.Z in /your/root/path.
Set the CWPROOT environment variable to CWPROOT=/your/root/path and add /your/root/path/bin to your shell path. Uncompress and untar the file via zcat cwp.su.all.xx.tar.Z | tar -xvf -. Afterward, the code will appear in a single directory /your/root/path/src.
To compile the codes, navigate to /your/root/path/src and edit the file /your/root/path/src/Makefile.config to match your system needs. Then, run the make install command to install the basic set of codes, and follow it up with make xtinstall to install the X-toolkit applications. You can install the Fortran codes using the make finstall command, the Mesa/Open GL items (experimental) through make mglinstall, and libcwputils (nonessential) using make utils.
The Motif application (nonessential) is installed with the make xminstall command, while an improved version of SEGDREAD is installed using make sfinstall. Alternatively, if you need to remake the basic set of codes, use the make remake command. To remake X-toolkit applications, use make xtremake, to install the Mesa/Open GL items, use make mglremake, and libcwputils.a (nonessential) using make uremake.
If you encounter issues with the codes during the installation, try running "make" in the directory containing the code modifications. If that doesn't work, you may need to use the "remaking" options.
The current version of the codes installs smoothly, as shown in the "install.successful" file for RedHat Linux-based PCs. Overall, the CWP/SU Seixmic Un*x package is a reliable and powerful software environment that meets the needs of seismic researchers and waveform practitioners.
