Sfinx is a personal data manager that allows users to manage their private data, including contacts, events, files, notes, tasks, and more.
Each data item is connected to a Sfinx object, which allows for easy editing, deleting, or reconnection as life changes. You can also attach additional tags, including slices or other Sfinx objects, for greater flexibility in cross-connecting data.
To help you navigate this ocean of information, Sfinx comes equipped with a search engine that makes your daily tasks more precise, freeing up more time for your dreams. The software uses the client/server concept, with the X11 (Fltk) user interface application named Faraon provided.
All object links and meta information are stored in an Embedded Firebird database that can be added, modified, relinked, and searched as needed. Sfinx notes allow for attaching a file or contact to slices or other objects. Furthermore, Sfinx's file module helps sort and later find files on the computer, moving them from unsorted locations to annotated directories within a structured database.
Sfinx is still in the prototype stage, with most modules yet to be written. As such, the UI may look somewhat unpolished. However, plans are already underway for the development of the events, contacts, tasks, knowledge, finance, and ai modules as well as crypted objects, communication, and authentication. Other planned updates include a move to fltk2 and utf8, mobile UI (openmoko), full object indexing, TTS, plugins, users and ACLs, server statistics, and a Sfinx servers knowledge network (sfinx:// URL).
