SFSU Penaltybox manages high network traffic in resident halls.
The software has specific requirements such as libpcap, Perl 5+, and PHP 4+. In the latest release of the software, several issues have been resolved, including fixed some autoconf problems, files in the CVS that shouldn't be there, and a weird bug that redirected stdout towards the summary file, improvements in logging and messages sent to syslog instead of stdout or stderr, among other bug fixes.
The new release offers additional features such as additional verifications to ensure that values set in the configuration file are actually "real," improvements in the ignore system, verification that -enable-sockets has been compiled in, verification for PHP5 and an extension for get_xml.php. In addition, the software allows the administrator to view users who are currently in the packetshaper's redirect list, lookup any IP address and set the page title and title bars on the configuration file.
Overall, the SFSU Penaltybox is an effective software solution for managing network congestion in residence halls. Its features are robust and well-suited for managing bandwidth quotas and ensuring fair network usage for all users. It is easy to set up, and its requirements are minimal, making it an ideal software solution for administrators of student housing networks.
