The software allows users to test remote computer communications and identifies the packet route across an IP network from the user's PC to the remote host. It offers a more user-friendly package of the classic traceroute.
Back in the early days of the internet, the traceroute tool was introduced in Unix, and as the name implies, it traces the path of IP packets travelling from your PC to the target destination. It clearly identifies where the connectivity problem is originating from, regardless of how far it is from your computer. The traceroute identifies the last host to respond when functioning correctly and the first to fail when not.
Although a free tool called tracert.exe is provided with most Windows versions, Soft Institute wrapped the same functionality into a far handier package. SI Trace generates easy-to-read formatted output and features detailed results for better comprehension. It displays all the vital information from both classic Unix traceroute and Windows tracert instructions, plus the ability to check more than one system by merely selecting the address from the combo box. SI Trace's user-friendly interface ensures that it's a more straightforward and more efficient alternative than using Windows tracert.
