Sidux-highway is a KDM theme based on "Open Future" by Sabayon. It offers a fresh look to KDM interface with its unique design modifications.
The theme includes various modifications, such as altered icons and wallpaper, as well as a resized and repositioned user list. Additionally, a previously missing screenshot has been added. The highway image provided is a widescreen 1920x1200 format, but can easily be resized as needed. The developer has also conveniently included a 1024x768 version of the image, which can be used in place of the WUXGA picture.
Installing the theme is a straightforward process. Simply untar sidux-highway to /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/ and either manually change /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc or use kcontrol (if the kdmtheme module is installed). Be aware that if your display height is different from the provided 1200, the login area's position may be different from the preview. However, this can easily be adjusted by editing the highway.xml file with a text editor. Essentially, go to line 49 and replace the default -485 value with a value that corresponds to your display height. For example, if your display height is 800, you can replace -485 with -323, using a simple rule of three formula.
All in all, sidux-highway proved to be a user-friendly and customizable KDM theme. Furthermore, the included instructions make it easy for even novice users to adjust the theme to their liking. If you're simply interested in the wallpaper, the developer has even provided an option to easily obtain it.
