Experience the thrill of flying with a realistic flight simulator.
Learn how to maintain control during extreme maneuvers or climb the thermals into the fully volumetric cumulus clouds. Experience the thrill of low altitude hang-flying along stunning mountain ridges. Alternatively, load a GPS log to replay your own or a fellow pilot's real-life flight.
The aerodynamics in the simulator follows true physical principles, using local air flow over the wing profiles along with control surface movement and position for computing the force field acting on the glider. The force field is represented by numerous local force vectors producing accurate behavior, even in "asymmetric situations", such as side-slips, stalls, aero towing and entrance into thermals.
The sceneries in Silent Wings are based on a revolutionary level-of-detail technology that integrates triangulated topographic models, terrain textures, linear features and physical objects in a unified framework for real-time visualization. This innovative technology scales almost perfectly with data sizes and allows for any resolution in real-time rendering.
The weather model is constructed using realistic simulation of the physical systems for thermals and wind layers. Ground heat capacity models deduced from spectral analysis of certain satellite images form the basis for thermals. The complete thermal cycle, including rise of warm air, build-up of cumulus clouds, inflow of cool air, and evaporation of the cumulus clouds, is simulated to deliver high visual and physical realism.
Silent Wings contains 4 flyable aircraft ranging from the sturdy G-103 Twin II trainer to the open-class Antares self-launcher. All aircraft have animated moving parts and fully functional 3D cockpits, with wings flexing naturally depending on the aerodynamic situation. The current library of aircraft aims to be expanded, not just with sailplanes but also with other types of flying vehicles.
System requirements include Linux (2.4 or higher) as the operating system, a 3D graphics card with a minimum of 32Mb graphics memory, an 800 MHz processor, 256Mb RAM, and 2.5Gb of available HD space. For Linux systems, NVIDIA graphics hardware is recommended.
Overall, if you're looking for a fantastic flight simulator that is realistic and offers excellent training value, Silent Wings Simulator game is the right choice for you.
