A pure Java-based AIM client designed for miniature consoles.
The TOC protocol is the main focus of this review. It utilizes TCP and SFLAP for framing to create a TOC command within each frame. However, the protocol is ASCII-based, and proper attention should be given to the separation of arguments. The separator and separation rules vary for messages inbound to TOC and outbound to the client, which are discussed in detail in the sections that follow.
Additionally, it's essential to note that the TOC server's primary purpose is to service the TIC and TiK clients. Since the TIC client is a Java applet and downloadable, TOC does not support multiple protocol versions simultaneously. This means that TiK users will have to upgrade if there is a change in the protocol version.
Overall, Project SimpleAIM is an excellent tool for anyone looking to build their own IM clients or bots, offering an exceptional level of platform independence and cross-service compatibility. The TOC protocol is reliable and easy to use, with strict rules on argument separation. Despite the limitations of only supporting one protocol version at a time, Project SimpleAIM provides a solid foundation for creating your own custom IM clients or bots with ease.
