SimPlEdi is a web-based editor for creating music playlists in m3u format, perfect for mp3 files used in popular music players such as Winamp or XMMS.
The installation process of SimPlEdi is quite easy. First, make sure that you have the MP3::Info Perl module installed. If not, install it by running "perl -MCPAN -e shell cpan> install MP3::Info." After installing, copy all files to a directory below your webserver root. Ensure that your server executes CGIs from this directory. However, it's advised not to run this program on a publicly accessible webserver because it is not secure.
For proper configuration of your SimPlEdi, edit the config.pl file. All paths should be given without trailing slashes. Specify where your MP3 collection is in $REALDIR. $WEBDIR is the path to your MP3s when accessed via HTTP, while $RELDIR is the relative path from the location of your playlists, which is stored in $SAVEDIR. Note that the webserver has to be allowed to write in $SAVEDIR.
SimPlEdi also allows you to edit ID3 tags of MP3 files and to rename the filename if you wish. To set this up, define how a file should be named by setting up the string in $MP3SYNTAX. It supports several placeholders such as Artist or Bandname (%a), Songtitle (%t), Album (%d), File comment (%c), Release year (%y), Track number (%n), and Genre (%g). If you want to enable the renaming of the filename by default, set $RENAMEONTAG to 1; otherwise, set it to 0.
Additionally, you can customize the colors of SimPlEdi by altering the style.css stylesheet. The latest update of SimPlEdi has fixed the broken search function, making it even more efficient. Overall, SimPlEdi is a great web-based playlist editor that helps you manage your MP3 files easily.
