Singapore is a PHP image gallery that is free, fast, simple, multilingual, and template-driven.
The software follows the KISS philosophy by including only useful features. All image information is stored in flat text CSV files, which makes it unnecessary to use MySQL or other database software. However, users who have access to MySQL can still use it since Singapore has a backend that supports it.
Singapore has several key features that make it stand out. It offers flexible modes of operation, supports over 25 translations, and has easy setup and integration into an existing website. Additionally, users can easily add, delete, and edit images and galleries using the web-based admin, and the software automatically generates thumbnails (requires GD or ImageMagick).
Singapore is compatible with XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.0 outputs only, with no JavaScript or cookies. The software can load images from a different server, and it also allows for user-defined information such as location taken and camera used. The program has clear, logical, and commented object-oriented code, making it easy to modify and customize.
The software requires PHP and gd (recommended) and ImageMagick (optional). In the latest release, there is a new default template, and the software comes bundled with an 'rss' template that turns any Singapore gallery into an RSS 2.0 feed. Admin-side features include the ability to copy and move galleries and images, and there is now support for safe_mode and nicer URLs. Internally, there have been many changes, including much more object-oriented code, which should make development and customization simpler in the future.
