Skippy is a pager software designed for X11 that enables full-screen display. It allows users to easily navigate the content displayed on their desktop screen.
Skippy is user-friendly as all you need to do is compile and install it, then press the hotkey (which is set to F11 by default) to activate the program. You can choose a window using the keyboard (up, down, left, and right) or the mouse (by hovering over a window), then activate it by either pressing the left mouse button or the return/spacebar key. There are also modifiers you can use with the hotkey, such as holding Control and Skippy will update the snapshots of all windows or holding Mod1 to show only the windows of the currently focused window's window group.
Requirements for Skippy include an X11R6 server, Xft - the X Font library, Imlib2 (only for 'regular' Skippy, not skippy-XD), XRender, XComposite, XDamage, and XFixes extensions (only for Skippy-XD), and a NETWM or GNOME WM Specs compliant window-manager.
The latest release of Skippy includes various changes such as properly unmap mini-windows if their client vanishes, new ignoreSkipTaskbar configuration option (general section) to make Skippy ignore application's requests to hide from the taskbar, and fixes for weird condition grouping Gimp (and most likely others as well). Additionally, escape button closes the Skippy window and restores focus, and the window stacking order is restored after snapping windows. Skippy also now has basic Xinerama support - showing itself only on the head that the mouse is on.
Overall, Skippy is a reliable program that provides an alternative way of switching between tasks. It is easy to use and has various modifiers that can be used to personalize the experience. With its latest changes, it is now even more dependable and worth checking out.
