Slast is a Linux Live CD solution that integrates Slax and Asterisk 1.4 to offer a powerful communication platform. It combines the ease-of-use of Slax with the robust functionality of Asterisk 1.4 to deliver a flexible and scalable communication tool.
Slast is great for testing and demonstrating Asterisk as well as learning about it. With its ability to load into RAM, it is also a powerful backup option in case your Asterisk box fails. Additionally, Slax is modular, creating the opportunity for a repository of modules to be submitted by users to be added to their personal Slast CD.
For those interested in contributing to the development of the project, opportunities range in website design, module creation, and writing documentation. For inquiries, contact droops(at)gmail to volunteer.
Multiple versions of the Live CD have been created, one being with Linux from Scratch. Currently, the project focus is on new distributions with easy installation and updates, utilizing the Xfce4 window manager, and including numerous demos and VoIP security tools.
This project exists with two purposes: to educate individuals on Asterisk and to create personalized Asterisk live CDs. Config files have been restructured, and only the necessary files remain, with top priority being on getting Asterisk up and running for newcomers to the platform.
