SLAX Server Edition is a compact operating system equipped with an array of ready-to-use internet services.
The Linux operating system is contained in a small bootable CD known as SLAX. When using SLAX, Linux runs directly from the CD or USB device without the need for any installation process.
The Live CD that is based on Slackware Linux distribution is available for download on this website in the form of an ISO image. SLAX's primary objective is to offer a wide selection of practical software while ensuring that the image of the CD is small enough to fit onto a 185 MB CD-R(W) medium.
SLAX is a full-featured Linux operating system that boots directly from the CD or USB devices. Upon booting, all your available partitions and data storage devices, such as CD-ROM and USB storage devices, are automatically detected and mounted to /mnt/xx. For instance, disc0part1 may be assigned to the first partition on your primary hard drive, disc1part1 for your USB storage device, or cdrom0 for your CD-ROM drive. The process of mounting is safe and does not alter the data.
After booting, you have the option to log in as root, using the password "toor" (both without quotes, of course). This release of SLAX also includes a fix for smb-kioslave in KDE, which enables users to browse local windows shares. This fix is available as a separate module.
Overall, SLAX Server Edition is an excellent pocket operating system that provides numerous internet services and is great for users that require a small and flexible Linux distribution.
