SmoothSlideSaver is a screensaver for KDE that displays images from a specified directory as an OpenGL slideshow.
The Debian and Ubuntu (i386 architecture only) prebuilt packages are available for download either through the given links or using the more convenient apt-get option. To use apt-get, put one of the following lines into your /etc/apt/sources.list file- deb debian-sarge/ # Debian stable "Sarge" deb debian-unstable/ # Debian unstable (requires KDE 3.5.0 from Alioth (or experimental?)) deb ubuntu-breezy/ # (K)Ubuntu "Breezy". Subsequently, follow the regular process to install the package - #> apt-get update #> apt-get install smoothslidesaver.
If the unstable packages can't be installed, or if you have another Debian-based distribution and/or architecture, it's easy to build your package. To do so, Add the following line to /etc/apt/sources.list: deb-src source/. Then, execute the following commands- #> apt-get update #> mkdir smoothslidesaver #> cd smoothslidesaver #> apt-get build-dep smoothslidesaver #> apt-get source --compile smoothslidesaver #> dpkg -i smoothslidesaver_*.deb.
For those with other distributions installed on their computer, the process isn't as straightforward; users need to do it the hard way, involving downloading the source tarball, untarring it and then executing the following steps in the source directory - #> ./configure #> make #> make install. If anyone wants to provide an .rpm or Slackware package, they can contact the software developers. (You can find their email address in the AUTHORS file).
