Snac is a user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) that enables easy use of scanimage. It simplifies the scanning process by providing an intuitive interface to scan images and documents from compatible scanners.
Setting up Snac for your scanner requires a few steps, but it is a simple process that does not require any particular expertise. You may still need to make use of the terminal to some extent, or alternatively, you could download Snac and make use of the links provided in the help file.
Once Snac has been properly set up for your scanner, the actual usage is relatively straightforward. However, it is worth mentioning that cancelling a scan can sometimes result in the scanner freezing.
To initiate the scanning process using Snac, start by creating a preview image by pressing the preview button or using the command-P keyboard shortcut. The preview image will be scanned in your selected mode, with a resolution of approximately 50 dpi, utilizing the full scannable area. The preview image will then appear in the preview panel.
Next, select the area you want to scan by dragging it in the picture and pressing the Scan button or using the command-S keyboard shortcut. Once the scan is complete, a save dialog box will appear. You can then save the image file and choose to have it opened in your selected helper application, provided that you have enabled that option.
It is important to note that Snac requires SANE to be installed on your system.
