Splice is software that helps you organize your media by creating labels for CDs, DAT tapes, 8mm tapes, and analog cassette tapes.
One of the best things about Splice is that it stores setlists in a simple textual fashion. The setlist format is designed to be easy to use for both Splice and the person creating the setlist. It consists of a header, the songs, and an optional trailer. Additionally, Splice runs on any system that has Perl and has been tested on MacOSX, Red Hat Linux, and Windows XP (note that classic MacOS is no longer supported as of Version 1.2).
The software can generate multiple labels with a single input file. You can generate one CD label, two cassette/8mm labels, or three DAT labels per page. The output is either in PS or PDF format, with most users preferring the latter. If you configure Splice to generate PDF output, it will automatically open the resulting label in the PDF viewer (such as Acrobat Reader).
Finally, the latest release addresses an issue with titles and CDs, making it even more user-friendly. So, if you need to create labels for your music collection or any other purpose, give Splice a try.
