SPOCP is a highly efficient authorization engine based on simple rules, providing clients with Simple Policy Control Protocol.
Launched in June 2002 after a feasibility study completed between August 2001 and March 2002, SPOCP's initial phase focused on designing and implementing an Authentication Server and a Policy Engine for an Authorization Server. This phase ended on May 31, 2003, paving the way for the current phase which is all about making SPOCP a complete product and establishing sustainable open-source support for it. The second phase is set to conclude on May 31, 2004.
Early in the development process, the project focused on creating both an Authentication and an Authorization Server. However, SPOCP ultimately decided to place emphasis on the Authorization Server, with plans to advise the use of software such as Feide's for the Authentication Server.
In terms of functionality, SPOCP's rule-based authorization engine is highly efficient and effective in keeping data secure. It has been deployed in various production settings and enjoys active maintenance to ensure smooth operation.
