SpyChat is an IRC chat client designed for Spymac.com with a focus on enabling users to chat with others, while maintaining privacy and security through encryption.
SpyChat uses the IRC client backbone and has many extra features added on top. The addition of special emoticons enhances the way you communicate with others in the chat. Plus, the program has a stylish look thanks to Mac OS X aqua, and can transform to brushed metal too. Alongside other features like System Information and Current iTunes Song Playing, SpyChat's source code can be downloaded for free.
But it's not just the software that's got Spymac users raving about SpyChat - it's the people too. The Spymac community is known for its loyalty and support, and logging onto SpyChat will allow you to make new friends and get in touch with existing ones even easier.
In the latest release, SpyChat distinguishes between Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server in Mac Info. Plus, it now prevents client flooding by reducing outgoing data rate for all non-user generated data, and responds to USERINFO ctcp requests with a status message. You can also set users as away automatically, based on how long they have been idle, with control in "Connection" preferences. And the Readme has been updated.
To use SpyChat, you'll need a Mac OS X 10.3 or higher (10.4 for unified aqua look) and an internet connection. If you're behind a firewall, make sure port 6667 is open.
