SquidGuard is a plugin for Squid that functions as a filter, redirector, and access controller all in one.
The plugin is incredibly useful if you need to limit web access for certain users only to accepted and well-known websites or URLs. It can also block access to web servers and URLs from blacklisted domains for designated users. Additionally, SquidGuard can prevent users from accessing URLs containing specific regular expressions or words, enforce domain-name usage in URLs, and redirect blocked URLs to an intelligent CGI-based information page.
Moreover, this plugin can also redirect unregistered users to a registration form, redirect popular downloads such as Netscape and MSIE to local copies, and even redirect banners to a blank GIF. With SquidGuard, you can create different access rules based on time of day, day of the week, date, and other user groups.
The latest SquidGuard release comes with an impressive update where the source block now takes a new argument: "continue." With this feature, you can configure multiple source blocks with different IP addresses or users. SquidGuard will continue to search for a client in the next source block if a client is found but not blocked, provided that the continue command is defined. Many thanks to Valentin Chopov for the patch.
Overall, SquidGuard's exceptional abilities and flexibility make it a must-have for anyone seeking a comprehensive Squid plugin that can swiftly address various filtering needs. Its impressive features and smart updates ensure that it stays ahead of the game, delivering the ultimate user experience.
