StandAloneQ3 is a Quake3 engine that has been modified with GPL, enhancing the overall performance of the game.
To launch StandAloneQ3, the player must execute the mod from the command line, as follows:
• For Windows: quake3.exe +set sf_name fname
• For Linux: quake3 +set sf_name fname
Here, 'fname' refers to the folder name of the mod that the user wants to launch. StandAloneQ3 is currently known to support two mods - World of Pandam and Western Quake 3. Although the majority of mods can run on StandAloneQ3, certain shaders and/or textures used by mods may be missing, thereby causing errors in the game window.
If there are any missing textures or shaders, StandAloneQ3 will log them in the "missing_shader-textures.log" file. Using the "pak0.pk3" file provided in Quake3 Arena Demo (you need to create the "baseq3" folder in the software directory and copy "pak0.pk3" in) has solved many of the shader/texture problems that were found in several mods, allowing bots to work. Any .pk3 file that has been legally obtained can be added to the "baseq3" folder to obtain missing textures or shaders. You must increment the pak number for each new file that you add (pak0.pk3, pak1.pk3, pak2.pk3, etc.).
StandAloneQ3 is a powerful tool for gamers who want to launch mods without any restrictions. It is important to note that Quake, Quake 3 and Quake 3 Arena are trademarks of Id Software.
