This Thunderbird add-on provides a small calculator icon that expands to a fully functional calculator in the status bar. It is a convenient tool for quick calculations while using email or browsing.
To use the calculator, simply enter the math expression that you want to calculate and hit the enter key. Additionally, the add-on offers different modes that you can switch between by right-clicking on the icon. The modes available include hex, dec, bin, or complex. You can also select any base between two and twenty-four, and use the page-down key to change the base.
The calculator also allows you to switch between radians and degrees for angle measures. In real mode, you can perform basic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, modulus, exponent, and factorial. The calculator also supports different functions, including asin, acos, atan, sin, cos, tan, sqrt, log, ln, and exp. You can access default constants like e, mp, me, mn, h, qe, gv, g, k, pi, and ans. You can also add more functions and constants using the options window.
The calculator provides two ways to use the percentage sign (%). You can switch it to be used as either modulo (remainder) or percent. When using modulo, ten percent four (10%4) will output two. However, when using the percentage sign as a percentage, 10+10% or 10+10+10% will equal 11 and 21, respectively. Additionally, in percent mode, 10*10% will output one.
Complex mode works with the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, exponent, mod, and functions such as sin, cos, tan, ln, exp, re, im. You can use the letter "i" to indicate iota, and only three constants, e, pi, or and, are allowed in complex mode.
Note: it is important to use small brackets when typing in functions, e.g. sin(pi/2). Scientific notation (e.g. 1e-23) is only allowed when working in decimal (base 10) mode. When working in bases greater than ten, avoid using spaces and use capital letters to denote numbers, e.g. 1A2+B.
Overall, Status-bar Scientific Calculator is a must-have add-on for anyone who frequently performs calculations while working on Thunderbird. It is user-friendly, versatile, and supports a vast range of features and modes that cater to different mathematical requirements.
