Stickytime is a clock software that shows the status of stickykeys and mousekeys in addition to the time.
One of its most unique capabilities is the ability to execute programs and direct their output to a tooltip (albeit somewhat of an abuse of the tooltip concept). Users can execute these programs through mouse clicks, automatically every nn minutes, or at specific times. The tooltip can also be logged to a file.
Stickytime is also a simple stopwatch and can be run in three different modes: as a normal window, an undecorated window, or a dock app. Latched stickykeys (modifiers) are displayed in lower case, whereas locked modifier keys are displayed in upper case. Modifiers beyond Alt (like Super_L) use the digits 2, 3, and 4.
Mousekey buttons use L, M, and R if no clock is displayed, and a small dot on the left side top, middle, or bottom if time is being displayed. Examples of Stickytime's display functionality include: "cSa," which indicates Control and Alt being latched, and Shift being locked, and "CA4," which indicates Control, Alt, and the "Windows" key being locked.
Regarding user interface, the clock (if not in a dock) can rise to the top when modifiers are latched/locked and lower or erase (unmap) when none are. Options to use the popup and unmap features are available, giving users more control over their interface.
Regarding installation, users should extract the archive "tar xzvf stickytime-0.5.3.tar.gz," CD into the stickytime directory, and execute "make." Afterward, users may copy the stickytime executable to any location in their path or "su root" and execute "make install." If you want double-sized LED's, uncomment "#define DOUBLE_SIZED_LED" in stickytime.c before executing "make."
Several options are available for customization. For instance, users may specify the color of the clock LEDs, the color of the background, and show the stickykeys state and use the "color." Additionally, users can choose to show mousekey pointer buttons, allow Mod2 or Mod3 to display, set the height/width of dockapp or window, set the window X/Y position, display a 12/24 hour clock (or no clock at all), and specify various commands for each button. Users may also set the tooltip background color, foreground color, and designate a log filename.
In terms of user experience, users may choose to withdraw the program into the dock or use shaped windows. Stickytime is also equipped with an option to avoid using window manager decorations for non-dock windows. Users may select their target display as well, providing a greater degree of customization.
In summary, Stickytime is a versatile program that is useful for displaying the current state of modifier keys and providing a convenient stopwatch. This software review highlights the program's impressive capabilities, including the ability to execute programs and log tooltips. Stickytime offers many customization options, making it a great choice for users who are looking for a clock and accessibility program that provides more control.
