AutoCAD users can export geometric data to binary or ASCII Stereolithography (STL) files with the STL Export plug-in. The plug-in is compatible with AutoCAD versions 2000, 2000i, 2002, and 2004.
While AutoCAD does have an existing "STLOUT" command, it unfortunately has some major limitations. For instance, it only exports 3D Solids, and only one at a time. Furthermore, 3D Face, Polygon Mesh, and Polyface Mesh entities aren't exported as a part of the STL model; but STL Export for AutoCAD swiftly addresses these concerns. With this tool, a user can now export several 3D Solid, 3D Face, Polygon Mesh, and Polyface Mesh entities to a singular STL file.
STL Export for AutoCAD is incredibly user-friendly, as the software adds a new command tab to AutoCAD, known as "STLEX." To begin, one just needs to type "STLEX" at the AutoCAD command prompt and then initiate the selection process for exporting the desired entities.
I found the STL Export for AutoCAD plug-in to be a must-have for any AutoCAD user. It significantly streamlines the 3D modeling process and expands the capability of exporting options. Overall, I would highly recommend STL Export for AutoCAD to anyone looking for an easy-to-use, versatile, and efficient software tool.
