StuffDawg is a basic PHP app that enables users to document and track essential belongings through a centralized database.
One thing to note is that there is currently no security mechanism in place, as it was designed to be run on a private network, like a home LAN. Although the developer may add some security features later, it will not be extravagant.
The developer wrote this software to gain experience with BLOBs in a database. Although it may be slow and ugly, the developer wanted to create a sort of simple and atomic datastore for information. This way, all you need to do is run a mysqldump and save that somewhere. Even if the software disappears or is lost, you still have a database that you can run queries on. This also made things much simpler in the code.
The installation process for StuffDawg is relatively simple. First, you need to unpack the software. After that, you need to create a database to store the tables. Currently, there is no way to define a table-prefix, although the developer might implement that later. Importing the schema.sql file into this new database is the next step, which involves executing this command: "# mysql StuffDawg < schema.sql". Then, you need to create a database user for StuffDawg to use, and of course, configure the database connection information by filling out the $username, $password, $hostname, and $database variables.
If you prefer to use a different version of the Smarty Template Engine than the one included, you can edit the global.inc.php file in the htdocs directory and configure it to your liking. It's also important to ensure that your web-server has read access to the directories and write access to the templates_c and cache directories, and it's necessary to configure your web-server to serve content from the htdocs directory.
In this new release, the software has better image scaling, more intelligent templates, and a few minor bug fixes. Overall, StuffDawg is a simple yet useful application that can help you keep track of your valuable items.
